Aspenware Hires Travis Hoffmann as Senior DevOps Engineer
Sep 22nd, 2022

Travis Hoffmann recently joined the Aspenware Team as Senior DevOps Engineer and we couldn’t be more excited! Travis brings a diverse set of experiences in web operations including conducting go-lives, managing production systems, and also writing automation primarily in PowerShell backed by Octopus Deploy for deployment. Most recently, he’s worked in DevOps using tools such as Terraform, Azure, and Azure DevOps. He is passionate about tooling and technology and about process as it relates to software delivery.

“I’m always on the lookout for ways to create leverage through simple well-designed solutions and am excited to share these with Aspenware’s resort customers.”

When we asked Travis about his enthusiasm for Aspenware, he told us, “It’s not every day you see ‘all company ski day’ in a job description. With Aspenware, it’s clear the organization plays a critical role in supporting an industry I love to participate in.”

Growing up in the Midwest, Travis generally didn’t look forward to winter (in terms of the weather itself anyway). However, once he discovered skiing in Colorado it transformed that perspective entirely; now he gets childish excitement any time he wakes up to a foot of snow outside! Given that, working on products and with people in the winter sports industry is a natural fit.

⛷️ First foray in ski:

Travis started skiing about seven years ago.  One of his favorite ski memories from those earlier days was when he and a friend were out skiing Loveland during a big powder day.  They were taking turns attempting some small cliff drops which felt awfully big at the time. He dropped off one and didn’t manage his poles correctly on the landing. After planting his right pole about three feet into the powder, momentum swung his body around in an arc, thereby bending the pole in half.  Though he tried bending it back and instead ended up snapping it apart entirely, which made for a funny picture (see above) and a treasured memory. It was just one of those special days on the snow.

💖 Favorite outdoor activities:

Travis loves to ski in the winter and mountain bike in the summer. He also hiked Mt Bierstadt for the first time this past year with his brother which was a great experience.

🏠 Home base:

Travis lives in Westminster, Colorado.

😊Fun Fact:

When not skiing or mountain biking, Travis enjoys creating games in the game design platform Unity. While he claims to still be working on a lot of fundamental skills, he has found it rewarding to get the initial pieces such as animation and pathfinding to work as expected. He believes that, in many ways, digital games are abstracted models of the real world, so problems that seem trivial on the surface can become quite interesting when approached in code for the first time!
